Saturday Story- FreeMeals lending a helping hand to patients recovering from cancer
Yvonne is from Livermore CA and married to her husband Todd of many years.
This year of 2020 was set to be the best year for Yvonne as she would welcome her first grandchild this late spring, however she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Remarkably the doctors detected it early so she is now in the early stages of treatment. Breast cancer runs in her family so the medical team is making certain she is getting the best care possible at Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
Yvonne is no stranger to this foundation as she has worked there for years as a medical asst. Some years before she suffered from sleep apnea and underwent a surgery to correct it however the surgery was not successful as they hoped. She no longer could do the work she loved and since then she had done odd jobs before the cancer diagnosis. She is a woman who likes to take care of everyone, and it has been difficult for her to accept the help she so desperately needs.
Her loving husband has a very demanding job as a Home Care Therapist. He may drive some 500 miles in a week, work extra long hours, and by the time he gets home he is exhausted. Yvonne said she tries to cook a simple meal but the chemo and other radical therapies make her so sick she is unable to stand up and it has also affected her vision to make driving to her appointments difficult.
We are thankful she saw the info for FreeMeals on the NextDoor site and She allowed us to help. She repeated over and over how thankful she was and the food she has received was so delicious and healthy.
Yvonne welcomed her first granddaughter the first part of June and she has been able to face-time with her kids to see her first grand baby. She has no plans on backing down from this fight! In fact, she has big plans after she finishes her treatments to help others like her find help and hope through FreeMeals.
Yvonne, we will be here waiting for you once you are ready.
